We could say that Nisida is a semi-fictional story, since Dumas claims that this story is based on a real case. Presumably the writer changed the names and details, since there is no record of the event.

The latter did not appear in the titles of the work as Alexandre Dumas paid a large sum of money to make it so.

It deals mainly with the themes of justice, revenge, mercy and forgiveness and is told in the style of an adventure story. Dumas got the main idea from a true story he found in the memoirs of a man named Jacques Peuchet.
