Wd my world book edition ii lion

When I open the Finder My Book is listed. Lion is under development, but probably will be running in the new macs at the end of this year. So, this is a problem need to be solved. I just connected through finder and it works. It will ask you what Folder you want to mount, I personally keep everything in my Public Folder so i mounted that one.

The main issue I have that after every restart of closing of the Finder window of the mounted folder you need to go "Connect to Server"again. I reviewed my set-up procedure, which checked out ok. But, I re-started the set-up from scratch anyway. No error alert this time, but the drive status page in the controlling web-interface confirmed one drive was inoperable. The diagnostics and interface function work brilliantly. Unfortunately, I saw this occur before I had a chance to use the device for the intended back-up operations.

Overall Review: It is frustrating to have end items leave a factory--at least not make it to the customer--that are not in mint condition. Unfortunately, this is not the first WD product I have had trouble with out of the box. But, I have been disappointed by their externally powered products. The software and firmware has matured. That is what you need to know.

The bad reviews are either old or from people expecting too much. WHO cares it takes most of one day to backup the first time??? This is not a business solution or for someone wanting to back up a ton of files on a regular basis! Get the right tool for the task and you will be much happier.

Cons: Ok, I will say it, its slow. There is a bit of a learning curve for those that have never set these things up, but its well documented.

You have to set a password to use time machine, after that it is automatic You have to upgrade the firmware to use Lion too The first backup takes a long time, the movement of iTunes takes a long time DEAL WITH IT, either that or spend a grand on a file server.

You are barely paying more than for two terabyte drives, and you get backup software and a file server package all in one. It suits my needs and I dare say After you get it set up it takes minutes to do unattended backups. Pros: This drive installs very easily and the software was simple. At the time of this post no official drivers from WD are available. The protocols used by the unit may not be supported by Windows Thanks for your reply Trancer.

I can access the folder via using the Run command with the IP address, but a bit of a nuisance. What can I do? Since I have not hacked it I have no editor inside to manage and modify the files, as per this solution:.

Same problem here. I tried to power it off using the power button, no response. I tried to hot the reset button too, no response. I finally pulled the power wire and plugged it in after few minutes.

It starts responding. But, like some one said earlier. I have installed the firmware One of them drops off the Network and I cannot access files - sometimes within minutes.

The data is always there but the drive is inaccessible. I have not tried accesing it by ip address, only as a Network drive but will try a telnet or ping. When it drops off the Network the blue rings stay solid and it does not power off via the power button - the power cable has to be unplugged to bring the unit down. Your problems seem very close to mine and I would like to stay abreast of what is happening and would happily try things suggested and contribute if I can.

Can anyone advise on how I can do Defaults reset without losing the data? I have never carried out any software updates and the twin of my non accessible My Book World Edition blue rings functions fine but since it was the backup disk for my failing unit it is kept powered down.

I am also going to see if using a small fan blowing on the My Book World Edition blue rings that drops off the Network not visible as a disk improves the situation as other threads have suggested cooling problems. Oh God what a disaster. Let us all hope we can find some sort of solution.
